Since the announcement of its own Captain Marvel stream service, Disney has not stopped disclosing new series and exclusive content that will reinforce the offer of the platform, whose launch is expected for this 2019.
And while the company had already announced that part of the appeal of Disney + would be the possibility of finding all the content of its catalog - including Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar - in one place and exclusively, Disney executives have confirmed those plans, announcing that Captain Marvel will be the first exclusive OTT film.
During the presentation of the financial results of the company, Christine McCarthy, Chief Financial Officer of Disney, explained that the new bet of Captain Marvel full movie online will be the first film for which they will retain the rights, which would turn it into an exclusive film of Disney +, giving the kickoff to what they hope will be the start of revenue from licensing for the service.
That said, as Disney withdraws its content from Netflix, its main window of digital content to date, the company expects losses of up to $ 150 million, and in the words of its CEO, Bob Iger, is not necessarily a bad thing .
"What we are doing is an investment in the future," he explained during the presentation, adding that "all these decisions are designed so that in the future, this new line of business will become a pillar of Disney."
"We have several creative engines in our company, many of which are devoting their time and talent to develop content for the platform," continued Iger.
In this sense, the existing catalog will be complemented by original productions that include the already announced High School Musical: The Musical, Diary of a Female President, the return of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Captain Marvel full movie an animated series based on the franchise Monsters Inc. and several Marvel miniseries based on popular Marvel superheroes such as Scarlet Witch, Loki and The Winter Soldier.
In addition, the OTT has also confirmed two live-action series of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, and a spin-off of Rogue One, in addition to a dozen original films.
According to Iger, Captain Marvel Disney's plan is to opt for exclusivity and convenience, helping consumers to "break the mess" of streaming services with an OTT offering that combines Hulu, Disney + and ESPN + on the same platform, but with separate libraries.
"Building direct business to the consumer is our top priority, and we continue to invest in exceptional content and innovative technology to drive our success in this space," concluded Iger.
